Strap in for Strapr: Techtel deploys enhanced control of ABC's News Graphics
/Techtel Media Release
(Sydney, Australia, 05 August 2024) – Techtel has announced the creation of a custom software-based graphics control system for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), designed to replace a legacy solution with enhanced security and functionality to meet evolving business needs.
Strapr, built specifically for ABC News Studios, is a dynamic web application that aggregates data from various sources, allowing operators to manage and push it to the graphics engine seamlessly.
Enhanced to address the changing needs of the business, a key function of Strapr is to control VizRT graphic engines, which ABC uses to render HD graphics for news highlights and updates on their 24-hour news channel. Strapr communicates directly with the Viz Engine, sending commands and data to trigger fact straps, tickers, opening titles, and locator graphics.
The software offers full manual control for operators or can be configured in automation mode to dynamically populate ticker and opening titles data. Journalists can input, summarise, and override information for breaking news, add fact straps, and control curation effortlessly.
Key features of Strapr include enhanced security with strict login permission criteria controlled via Active Directory, remote access as a browser-based application providing flexibility for work from anywhere, and flexible control that can be managed by ABC News HQ in Sydney or any of the ABC News studios throughout the country to take control and contribute content. Additionally, Strapr offers automated image handling, automatically transferring images to specific folders to create a key news item image reel, and clock round robin functionality to ensure continuous and updated information display.
The introduction of Strapr for ABC underscores Techtel’s commitment to delivering innovative and reliable broadcast technology solutions. Its launch is part of Techtel’s expanding software development capabilities, which also include the inflo™ web-based media asset management solution for content management, processing, and on-demand distribution.
